Twenty eight companies were adjudged as the best places to work in Nigeria because of their strong ethical standards and work-friendly environment.
The companies include Guinness Nigeria Plc, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, GlaxoSmith Beecham Nigeria, Akintola Williams & Delloitte, and Microsoft. Others are Johnson Wax Nigeria Limited, Mansard Insurance Limited, United African Company Plc, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).
Also, the Chairman, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc, Dr. Bamidele Makanjuola and the Registrar, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Mr Sunday Adeyemi went home with awards.
Speaking during the second edition of the Great Place To Work (GPTW)  Awards in Lagos, on Wednesday, the Managing Director GPTW  Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Malomo said the awards are one way of contributing to the human capital development in the country.
Malomo said the firm organised a two-day intensive training programme for the Chief Executive officers of companies, adding that the training has helped in knowing the most engaged CEOs in Nigeria, adding that Trust Index and Culture Audit are the two criteria used in determining  the companies that  have won the awards this year.

He said: ‘While the Trust Index is based on employees’ knowledge of their working environment, the Culture Audit has to do with information on best working practices employed by the companies.  We combined the two modalities, sent them to the company’s head office in San Francisco where they are analyzed. There, they agreed on the rankings that we are communicating through this award,’
Malomo said a globally acceptable control standard has been put in place to ensure the success of the exercise, stressing that companies/ individuals that do not meet the cut-off point are not considered for the award.
‘ We have a trust index score known as  Global Great Place To Work Trust Cut Off Index. If your company does not meet the cut-off point, there is no way you can be ranked. Often times, there are issues that need to be resolved. One of them is when companies have tight scores. When this happens, we go to Francisco where they are sorted out, he said.
